1300locate have been pioneers in the use of Ground Penetrating Radar for utility detection here in Australia having purchased one of the first of the new IDS machines back in 2007. Since then 1300locate have made the push for this valuable tool to be excepted amongst our peers, whilst we copped a bit of flack from other companies it has now become a recognised and sort after tool when utilities cannot be found by traditional methods.
1300locate uses the IDS Detector Duo which utilises 250mhz and 700mhz at one time. (shallow and deep penetration)
Underground imaging technology has opened the door to help locators broaden there abilities to include the location of;
- Post tensioning cables in concrete
- Utility locating in concrete, under asphalt and where no surface features are evident, natural ground
- Buried manholes under asphalt, concrete and natural soils
- Road crossings
- Rising mains
As this technology is still evolving it still has its limitations and cannot see through steel, water, dense clays or soils containing high metallic content so don't be fooled by salesman and companies promoting GPR any other way than this explanation as it will be incorrect. I have heard of companies telling people their GPR can see trenches in sand and through water etc, guaranteed incorrect actually impossible and this is the same for larger units, they are not the be all, you will still need to back it up with maps and or other equipment.
So when ordering Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) remember it is just like everything else in a locators car, a tool to find utilities.
If you need the right tools for the job call 1300LOCATE now.
