The NPI Stage 2 pipeline project will connect from the stage 1 termination point at Lander’s Shute WTP (Eudlo) and extend to the Noosa WTP near Cooroy. Once the pipeline is operational, it will allow up to 18 megalitres per day or 6500 megalitres per annum to be transferred south from an existing water entitlement - as authorised under the Water Resource (Mary Basin) Plan 2006, within the Upper Mary River Water Supply Scheme. The project consists of approximately 48 kilometres of bi-directional pipeline and associated facilities. The project footprint is approximately 148 hectares, comprised of a 30 metres wide pipeline corridor plus associated facilities of four pump stations, one balancing tank and two water quality boosting facilities. The designs for both stages of the pipeline incorporate a reverse flow capability to allow water to also be transferred to the Sunshine Coast in times of need. The project will be designed to accommodate additional water from future water supply sources such as desalination sites identified for further investigation in the SEQ Water Strategy.
